Our range of cost-effective direct acting solenoid valves with plastic bodies can be supplied in normally closed, normally open and latching (bistable) versions.
The normally closed 2 way direct acting valves feature a simple robust operating mechanism consisting of a magnetic stainless steel armature and a solenoid coil. The armature has a nitrile rubber seal at one end which is used to close the valve's orifice, when the solenoid coil is energised the armature is attracted into the coil and the orifice is uncovered allowing water to flow through the solenoid valve, de-energizing the coil allows the return spring to move the armature and seal back to their original position closing the orifice and stopping the water flow.
Normally open solenoid valves have a different arrangement of coil and spring, with the spring holding the valve open and the coil being used to pull the armature and seal into a position that closes off the orifice.
Latching direct acting solenoid valves are similar in construction to normally closed valves but incorporate a small permanent magnet into the armature, this ensures that a short electrical pulse moves the armature into the coil and the magnet then causes the armature to stick (or latch) onto the fixed armature at the end of the coil. Reversing the pulse direction cause the coil to generates a reversed magnetic field that nulls out the permanent magnet’s magnetic field unlatching the armature and allowing the spring to close the valve.
Our direct acting plastic solenoid valves are available in a range of sizes, voltages and connection types. Unlike servo-assisted (pilot operated) solenoid valves, direct acting valves rely entirely on the force that the coils magnetic field is able to generate on the armature, this does limit the range of orifice sizes and pressures that direct acting solenoid valves are able to work at, however a distinct advantage of direct acting solenoid valves is that they are able to operate at zero pressure making them ideal for applications that operate at very low pressure, they also offer near instantaneous operation.
We also offer a selection of media-separated (dry-armature) direct acting solenoid valves, the advantage of these valves is there is no contact between the media and any metallic parts (such as the armature and spring), this is particularly useful in applications involving food stuffs or aggressive liquids.
