  • Our History

Beta Valve Systems Ltd was founded in 1983 by Ian Sparrowhawk. Since its inception the core of Beta’s business has always been the supply of quality fluid control components to oem equipment manufacturers, specialising in solenoid valves and related products.

In the early 1990’s Beta began producing its own range of dispense solenoid valves for vending machine applications, these dry-armature valves have also found use in scientific equipment, hydroponics and floor cleaning machines. The experience gained through producing our own valves is often directly applied when we supply products produced elsewhere.

In 2017 Ian retired from the business and ownership of the company passed to its employees with the formation of the Beta Valve Employee Ownership Trust, the trust permanently holds the company’s shares on behalf of the employees. In this way the continuity of the business in its current form has been ensured. It’s not only our employees who benefit from this stability. For both our suppliers and our original equipment manufacturer (oem) customers, who require a stable and secure supply chain for their production, can be reassured by the stability that employee ownership provides.

All employees now have a voice in the running of the business. Indeed the trust deed requires that they are consulted on important decisions that will affect the company, Beta has gone beyond this, in our regular monthly Employee-Owner meetings all staff get to see how the company performed the previous month and have a say in how this might be improved. In this way we are trying to use EO to encourage greater employee commitment and engagement; we want our employees to feel able to voice their ideas because it is their company and for them to know their ideas will be listened so that we can increase the success of the business.
