Angle Seat Valves - High Flow, Minimum,Pressure Drop

Air Operated Stainless Steel Angle Seat Valves from ACL

Produced by ACL srl these angle seat valves are ideal for demanding fluid control applications that require high flow with minimum pressure drop.  These pneumatically actuated angle seat valves are designed for use in  process control applications where reliability and long life are key requirements.

Features of angle seat valves are:

  • Angle pattern design - for minimum pressure loss at high flows
  • Full range: normally open, normally closed, proportional, double acting and high pressure versions.
  • Stainless steel valve body - allows widest possible compatibility with working fluids including air, water, foodstuffs, and aggressive media compatible with the materials of construction.
  • Water hammer is reduced or eliminated
  • Self adjusting seal minimises leaks when used with contaminated fluid
  • Long life due to use of FKM/PTFE seals
  • Angle pattern design - for minimum pressure loss at high flows

ACL’s valves are successfully employed in a large variety of industrial sectors: water treatment, electrical appliances, industrial process, heating and air-conditioning, medical equipment, automotive, textile, food, pneumatics and many others.

Angle Seat Valve data sheets ACL’s air operated stainless steel angle seat valves are available in 2-way normally closed, normally open and proportional normally closed versions. Thanks to the design of this type of valve all versions offer unbeatable performance in terms of low pressure-loss at high flow rates.

The P171 high pressure angle seat version features models capable of withstanding a maximum allowable pressure of upto 40 bar.

Long life and low maintenance are ensured by the use of a proven ‘sealing pack’ to provide a leak tight stem seal between the actuator and the valve body.  The main seal has a self adjusting design that compensates for any misalignment caused by the presence of contamination in the working fluid reducing any leakage through the valve.

The pneumatic actuators are able to rotate through 360º making it easier to install the pilot connections.

The pneumatic actuator is available in two styles - 50mm diameter actuator in stainless steel and 70mm in glass reinforced polymer.  Both are designed for demanding industrial use.

The P150/P170 series angle seat valves are supplied as standard with an optical position indicator and can be retro fitted with electrical position indicator switches to allow the actual valve position to be signalled to control equipment remote from the valve’s location.

Working Principle Pneumatic Angle Seat Valve

The P150 and P170 series of angle seat valves are available in both 2/2 Normally closed and 2/2 Normally open

Normally Closed Series P170

Application of the 2/2 normally closed version.

A 3/2 normally closed solenoid valve (Typically an ACL E306BB15/201) is used to control the pilot air signal - without this pneumatic source, the action of the return spring in the top of the actuator ensures that the angle pattern valve remains closed and there is no flow of the working fluid.:

Energising the solenoid valve supplies air to the actuator and the valve opens allowing the working fluid to flow (below).

Energised 3/2 angle seat valve diagram

De-energising the solenoid valve shuts off the pilot air pressure to the angle pattern valve and the return spring closes the valve and the flow of working fluid is shut off(below).

2/2 normally open version

The operating principle of the normally open versions is the same as the normally closed version shown above, except that the pressure is applied to the upper chamber of the actuator, while the return spring is now located in the lower part.  The normally open valves will allow the flow of the fluid without the presence of the piloting signal. When the pilot pressure is present the flow of fluid will stop.
